Call for input from youth workers!

National Youth Settlement Training Unit

What would you like to see included in a training unit of working with young people from refugee backgrounds? AYAC is currently supporting the development of a national youth settlement training package. This package will result in a comprehensive set of training materials within the National Training Framework, for the VET accredited unit:Work effectively with young people from a refugee background.

The materials will reflect best practice in working with young people from refugee backgrounds and will be developed with input from young people, as well as workers in the youth and settlement sectors.

A Steering Committee has recently been established to oversee the Project, with representation from AYAC, SCOA, DIAC , FASSTT and the consortium partners (MYAN Australia, AMES, Navitas, MDA and Margaret Piper and Associates).

The Project is currently in its first stage consultations, with a range of opportunities for input. We would love to hear from you! The  Steering Committee is very keen to have input from workers across the youth and settlement sectors, as well as from young people from humanitarian backgrounds.  For  further information or to indicate your interest in participating in consultations, please contact Nadine Liddy, MYAN National Coordinator, on or Margaret Piper . More information about the Project and consultations can be found here at
