NT Youth Affairs Network Loses Funding
NTYAN funded by the Northern Territory Office of Children and Families, a recent victim of the Governments economic rationalisations. NTYAN is managed by the Human Services Training Advisory Council (HSTAC). NTYAN is responsible for coordinating networking activities for all Northern Territory jurisdictions and for collecting, managing, sharing data and other relevant information.
The network provides a vital mechanism for those who work with youth to participate in network activities and share information about youth affairs.
NTYAN currently has 2260 subscribers who receive weekly news bulletins. At the NTYAN website 446 organisations are listed in the Directory. The Directory and the News items are the most clicked on items. Throughout November, 5091 hits and 626 unique visitors were recorded to the website on average every day. NTYAN has active Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.
NTYAN has a strong and inclusive sub-committee with representation across regions of the Territory who meet 4 times per year in Darwin. Subcommittee members represent the Barkly Region, Central Australia Remote, Darwin Urban, East Arnhem, Katherine Rural and Remote, Katherine Township, Palmerston and Darwin Rural, Office of Youth Affairs and NTCOSS.
Like our friends in the Northern Territory we are deeply disappointed by the Governments recent decision to remove funding that will leave a chasm in the sharing and communication on network activities and information for youth related work in the Northern Territory.
