Youth Homelessness Matters Day

Every day, around 105,000 people are homeless in Australia. Nearly half of these are young people under 25. As today is Youth Homelessness Matters Day, the Australian Youth Affairs Coalition (AYAC) is calling for a well co‐ordinated, whole of community approach to helping solve the ongoing problem of youth homelessness.

“A whole range of issues contribute to young people becoming homeless. Family
breakdown, violence and abuse, the lack of affordable housing, mental health issues and inadequate Newstart and Youth Allowances are all serious factors in this ongoing problem” says Andrew Cummings, Executive Director of AYAC.
